sorry, I have better things to do with my time. it is hard enough trying to run your own business, but now I am supposed to get on my hands and knees, beg and plea this company to take my money?
a few days ago, I went to return 9 items totaling $110.00. my return was denied and I was directed to a company The Home Depot outsources to track their returns, named The Retail Equation (TRE.)
in summary: The Home Depot does not support the businesses in their communities that afforded them the ability to become the corporate giant they are today. if small business is really what drives this country, then The Home Depot is the definition of an anti-American business
I walked in there ready to order 750 square feet of bamboo flooring. The flooring guy was so incompetent he could not even manage to schedule a measurement for me. I wound up just walking out. I will have to go to a different Home Depot.
if you are attempting to return a purchased item to The Home Depot and you are asked to provide your driver's license, be forewarned, you are being tracked and will possibly be added to their black list just like me, with no option of getting off it anytime soon (see below.)
Decent selection and same goes for customer service.
Great selection of merchandise. Had to wait a little while for an associate - but Joe in plumbing took good care of us - worth the wait. He was efficient and knowledgeable on how to fix my problem. Thanks Joe!
the TRE representative asked for my phone number and email address, and stated that I would be receiving my activity report, which would contain all of the items that I have returned (and attempted to return) to The Home Depot without my receipt....I could then petition The Home Depot to remain a customer in their good grace.
with their MyLowes program, they track your purchases and returns.)
the most frustrating point of my experience was when I was given (in addition to all of my denied return items) TRE's phone number from The Home Depot's customer service representative.
you should immediately begin taking your business elsewhere, like to Menards, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc., if you do not condone this type of discriminating business practice.

while Home Depot's cover story (regarding their use of TRE tracking software) is that tracking returns helps counter theft, it excludes contractors who pay in cash, like myself.
over the last 4 years, I have made purchases totaling more than $50,000.00 from The Home Depot, for different jobs related to my business.
when I go bid my next job, do I include my added time of being forced to drive out of the way to shop at a different materials provider? should I also add a few dollars to my bids for the problems this headache has given, and will obviously continue to give?
(while Lowes also contracts the services of TRE, they do not strictly track returns only.
